22 things I’ve learned in 22 years

19.

I’m turning 22 tomorrow. And it feels interesting, surprisingly I am not frustrated or sad with the idea of growing up one more year, I am content. Maybe it is because I have a good feeling about all this or maybe it’s because Taylor Swift low key got it right. I don’t know. But I am happy to turn 22, for the first time in 5 years I am ok with my birthday.
But years go by and every year I grow, I change, I learn. And while I am no expert in life (is anyone really?) I did learn a few things about life:
Los años pasan y cada año crezco, cambio y aprendo. Y aunque no soy una experta en la vida (¿Hay alguien que lo sea?) si aprendí un par de cosas:

0.1.

     1.     Spend time with your family. Even after dinner. Even if it means canceling places with your friends. Even if it means you are going to miss something. Just sit and listen to them, they will one day fly away or leave. You never know.
Nunca sabes.
    2.     People are always going to talk. Even if you don’t post that picture, or wear that shirt. People will STILL talk about you. So, who cares?
La gente siempre va hablar. Aunque no subas esa foto, o uses la remera. La gente igual va hablar. ¿A quién le importa entonces?

2.

   3.     Meditate.
Medita.
    4.     You are not your social media. You are you. You are what you love, what you know, what you say and what you feel. Not your likes, not your comments. You are you.
No sos tus redes sociales. Sos vos. No tus likes, comentarios. Sos vos.

3.

    5.     Be present. Be here. Everything else can wait. Focus on the now.
Viví en el momento. Todo lo demás puede esperar. Concentre en el ahora.
    6.      You don’t magically turn a specific age and have your life figure out. Yet I still struggle with this.

5.

7.
Do what you love even if people think is lame. Whatever it is, do it.
    8.     Speak up and speak your mind. Make sure you are loud, make sure you are heard and make sure your point is clear.

5.
     9.      Learn how to cook and bake. Trust me, you’ll need it.
Aprende a cocinar. Lo vas a necesitar, créeme.
    10.  Try new coffee. Cold, or hot.
Proba café nuevo. Frio o caliente.

5.
    11.  Say no. even when it hurts, even when it is hard. Say it.
Decí no. Aunque te duela, aunque sea difícil. Decilo.
    12. Watch vines compilations. Hit me up for links.
Mira compilaciones de vines. Pidan me los links.

7
    13.  Explore new cultures. Learn and learn and learn about new ways of seeing life and your mind will open.
Explora culturas nuevas.

19.
   14. Fell in love with your own culture. Even it sucks, give it a try and appreciate. Don’t hate it, don’t look down on it. Learn about it.
Enamórate de tu cultura. Aunque no te guste, dale una oportunidad y valorarla. No la odies, no la mires mal. Apréndela.

  15.  Everyone is moving at their own pace. Relax. You’ll get there, I promise.
Todos están yendo a su propio ritmo. Relájate. Ya vas a llegar, te prometo.
 16. Play with animals.
Juga con animales.
   17. Wear whatever makes you comfortable even if it makes others uncomfortable. Wear that shirt with your favorite band or that shirt that states your political views.

19.
   18.  Take care of the environment. We only have one Earth, look out for it.
Cuida el medio ambiente. Solo tenemos una tierra, cuídala.

20.
   19. You don’t need that many clothes. We are overproducing, people are used as slaves, we are wasting materials on clothes that no one will wear. You really don’t need that 5th leather jacket.
No necesitas tanta ropa.

21.
    20.  Be polite. Say please AND thank you. You’ll make an amazing impression.
Sé educado. Decí gracias y por favor. Vas a dejar una gran impresión.

21.
   21. Support your friends. Follow their work Instagram, like their pictures, watch their videos, read their blogs.
Apoya a tus amigos.

21.
   22. Watch the sunset and sunrise every now and then. Just stop and appreciate, without a phone or camera, just watch it.

Love

Moving to Buenos Aires

I officially moved to Buenos Aires this week, and being honest I thought it was going to be easier.  From the moment I hugged my siblings’ goodbye, Tuesday morning before they go to school I was heartbroken. It was difficult letting go of my siblings, who I have lived for 14 and 10 years knowing that I won’t see them until the end of the month. Then I said goodbye to my best friends, who I couldn’t be happier they were also doing what they love and achieving so much. We have been in each other life for three and half years and we saw each other go through so much, grow up and we will eventually watch all of us become professionals, each doing what they love. Then, I hugged my mom goodbye. As I was walking through security at the airport and waving goodbye to my mother I remember the kind stranger telling me “it’s going to be ok, don’t cry young girl.” But the words I’m hanging on the most are my mother saying “You are doing what you love.” And that’s what it keeps me going and not turning back. That I’m following what I want.

Yesterday, I went downtown on my own for the first time. It was scary. But I kept going because I know that if I ever wanted to achieve one of my biggest dreams of moving to New York, it meant that this was nothing. I knew that if I really wanted to work as a journalist one day, I had to move to Buenos Aires and study.

Lastly, something really metaphoric to me was that the first thing I saw when I got to Buenos Aires was a whole bunch of rye. I’ve mention before that my favorite book is The Catcher in the Rye that talks about growing up. So it seem to me funny, that I saw rye in the place where I was going to grow up and become an adult.

My last advice is, we spent our whole life wanting to grow or to move away from our parents, but do appreciate your time with them. Tell them you love them, hug them daily, spend time with them and never ever take them for granted.

Dear Diary,

I decided to make my post today a Little more personal. I want to share what has been on my mind this past week.
I wish I could freeze this moment forever. Where I’m at peace. Where my future and past do not matter yet. Where my future and past do not collide. I wish I could stay like this. In less than a month, I’ll say goodbye to those I love. In three months I start a new life, one that determines what I’ll do the rest of my life. I wish I could stay in this moment. The moment nothings really matter and nothing really affects me.
I want to remain in this moment. Where I’m not a child, but not an adult. Where I’m with everyone I know and love. I wish this days would last forever. Days where the sun is bright and it sets late. Days where we do not have a care, where we can stay up late and nothing matters. This are the days where we do not have to worry because we are not kids, we do not have to pick how to color our drawings, and we are not adults, we do not have to prepare for our next meeting.

I hope you can relate and understand where I’m coming from.

The Catcher

Hello guys! Like I promise I’m posting again this week! But this one is a little personal. Like I mentioned before I’m not a big fan of sharing my poetry with people but I got a little inspired a decided to give it another try with this one.
I want to share the story behind this one because it is more personal that last one and I feel like a lot of people would identify and understand. This poem was inspired by many ideas I had in my head that day:

First, I am reading The Catcher In The Rye by J.D. Salinger and if you interpret like I do it talks a lot about growing up and the transition from being a teenager to and adult, and this is what this poem is about, growing up and being a grown up.
Second, the song called Ribs by Lorde had been stuck in my head the past few months, and how she repeats, it drives you crazy getting old and I wanted to express that, I wanted to express how I felt about growing up and all the changes we go through.
The next reason is way more personal. I’ve going crazy with school things and being just busy. If I’m not doing a project, I’m learning how to drive, or figuring out college or how to live on my own. I realized how little time I had for the thing I loved when I was younger. It is like adults change so much because we don’t have enough time anymore. I remember a few weeks my friend said: I don’t go on Tumblr anymore or read anything about my favorite band. It suddenly hit me why, we are so busy with growing up and grown-ups things we forget what we did when we were younger and had more time.

Hope you like it and I can’t wait to share more poems of mine with you J
Lots of love,
Pili
