Poland was one of those places I never imagine myself going. I know I want to visit literally every country, but Poland was not on my list nor did I ever think I would go there. Let alone, to camp in Poland. I had the chance to go to Poland in July/August last year and I’m so glad I did. Poland is a beautiful and small country that has been through a lot. People are extremely nice and happy to help you over there. While there I went to Warsaw, which is the capital and Krakow where I stayed at a camp for World Youth Day.
Polonia es uno de esos lugares que nunca me imaginé que iría. Se que quiero visitar todos los países del mundo, pero Polonia nunca estuvo en mi lista o me imagine que iría ahí. Menos, a un campamento en Polonia. Tuve la oportunidad de ir a Polonia el año pasado en julio/agosto y estoy contenta de que lo hice. La gente es muy amable y siempre están listos para ayudarte. Allí estuve en Varsovia, la capital y Cracovia donde me quedé en un campamento por el Día Mundial de la Juventud.
Warsaw
Day 1 - Lazienki park: Our first stop was this beautiful park, we got there walking since it was close to the hotel. The park is well known for having composer Fryderyk Chopin statue. This huge park has a lot of green as well as the Palace of the Isle. The park is big, so I recommend taking the time to go around and see it. Also, there is no food inside the park so eat before you go or take your food! We were tired that day, so we decided to just eat some pizza and relax for the night.
Día 1 - Parque Lazienki: Nuestra primera parada apenas llegamos fue este parque, fuimos caminando ya que quedaba cerca del hotel. El parque es conocido por tener la estatua del compositor Fryderyk Chopin es, además, un lugar enorme que tiene mucho verde y el Palacio Lazienki. El parque es muy grade así que recomiendo tomarse el tiempo para recorrerlo. Además, no hay comida adentro, por eso coman antes o llévense comida. Al terminar el día estábamos cansadas entonces fuimos a comer pizza y relajarnos.
Día 2 – Srodmiescie (centro de la ciudad): El día siguiente nos levantamos y fuimos al centro de la ciudad en un colectivo privado que contratamos. Primero paramos por el palacio presidencial en Varsovia. Seguimos caminado y nos encontramos en el centro de la ciudad que era muy colorido y parecía un cuento de hadas.
Rynek Starego Miasta (Old town market): We kept walking and found ourselves in the old town market where we stopped to have some typical Polish food, Pierogi, which are like dumplings and were amazing.
Rynek Starego Miasta (Plaza del Mercado del centro histórico de Varsovia): seguimos caminando y nos encontramos en el mercado del centro histórico. Allí frenamos a comer una comida típica polaca, Pierogi, que son como empandas, y muy ricas.
Wilanow palace- We got on the bus to get here since it was far away from town. This was my favorite spot in this country. The palace is beautiful but what is truly amazing is Jezioro Wilanowskie, which is a hidden lake in the back of the palace that I fell in love. Like the park from the previous day, I say take your time and really make sure you go to the lake in the back because it is beautiful. Since we were leaving the next day we just went to the hotel afterward.
Palacio Wilanow – nos subimos de Vuelta al colectivo y fuimos al palacio Wilanow que quedaba más lejos. Este fue mi lugar favorito del país. El palacio es muy lindo pero lo mejor fueron los Jazioro Wilanowskie, que es un lago escondido atrás del palacio que me encanto. Como el parque del día anterior recomiendo dedicarle mucho tiempo al parque porque es enorme y aprovechar el lago al fondo que es muy lindo. Al día siguiente nos íbamos y decidimos volver al hotel después.
Day 3 – Auschwitz: On our way to Krakow we stopped by Auschwitz, which was a Nazi concentration camp. It was amazing seeing all the history, but it was heartbreaking. I always tell people they should go, to see what it really was like and be more in contact with history. However, I understand that it is not for anyone. The same day we got to the camp in Krakow.
Día 3 – Auschwitz: en el camino a Cracovia paramos en Auschwitz, un campamento de concentración Nazi durante la Segunda Guerra Mundial. Fue una experiencia increíble ver todas esas historias, pero muy triste. Siempre le digo a la gente que deben ir, aunque sé que no es para todo el mundo. Ese mismo día llegamos a Cracovia donde nos acomodamos en el campamento.
Krakow
Day 4 - Main square: most of the days in Krakow were filled with World Youth Day activities yet, we had this first morning to explore a little bit the town. Krakow is a small town but with the nicest people ever. Everyone was warm and happy to help you. We first took the train and a bus to go to the Main Square which like many cities it was the centric part of town.
Día 4 – Plaza principal: La mayoría de los días en Cracovia estaban llenos de actividades del Día Mundial de la Juventud, igualmente tuvimos esta primera mañana libre para explorar la ciudad. Cracovia es una ciudad muy chica, pero con las personas más buenas del mundo. Todos estaban muy contentos y no tenían problema en ayudar. Primero tomamos un tren y un colectivo a la plaza principal, que como en muchas ciudades es la parte céntrica de la ciudad.
Castillo Wawel: Este Castillo estaba cerca así que caminamos hacia allá desde la Plaza Principal. La espera para subir al castillo fue muy divertida porque mientras esperábamos nos hicimos amigos de unos italianos, que fueron muy amable. El lugar fue increíble y alrededor había vistas impresionantes.
Day 5 & 6 – there is not much to say about the last two days since we only did some World Youth Day activities, like walking for the vigil and other activities. To be honest, this was some of the most amazing days because I got to talk to a lot of people from different countries like Spain, Australia, Italy, and Germany. Everyone was super nice and so happy to be there, everyone wanted to get to know each other. Big shout out to everyone I talked to there but never really kept contact with. Plus, being without internet or phone service for a few days was nice and best way to learn about a city. The whole experience of being in a camp in Poland was so amazing.
Día 5 & 6: no hay mucho para decir ya que los días estuvieron llenos de actividades del Día Mundial de la Juventud como la vigilia y las misas. La verdad es que fueron unos de mis días favorito porque tuve la oportunidad de hablar con gente de otros países como España, Australia, Italia y Alemania. Todos fueron muy amables y estaban muy contentos de estar ahí. Un saludo a todas aquellas personas que hable, pero no mantuvimos el contacto. Además, estar sin internet y teléfono por unos días fue increíble y fue una buena manera para conocer una ciudad. Toda la experiencia de estar en un campamento en Polonia fue sorprendente.
